Editing properties

The property window allows you to add properties to, remove properties from, and change various other information about an object. To edit an object's properties,

Select the objects whose properties you want to edit.
Choose Edit Properties from the Object menu.

The Properties window for each selected objects is opened. You can also double-click objects whose properties you want to edit.

You can rearrange the properties shown in a Properties window by dragging them into the order you want them to appear.

Adding a property to an object

To add a property to an object,

Open the property window for the object as described above.
Choose Catalog from the Windows menu. The Catalog window is shown.
Double-click the appropriate data type for the property using the list.

An untitled property of the selected type is added to the object's display and remains selected.

Removing a property from an object

To remove a property from an object,

Open the property window for the object as described above.
Select the property you want to remove.
Choose Clear from the Edit menu or press Delete.

The property is removed.

Editing a property's value

The value of simple properties can be edited directly in the property window. To edit a simple property's value,

Select the property you wish to edit by clicking on its value.
Move the cursor out of the name or press Return. An edit property is created with the text of the value.
Type the new value for the property and click anywhere outside of the edit property or press Return. The data is entered into the property. If the property has any restrictions set, the value you enter is made to conform to those restrictions.

Note that you cannot edit the value of simple properties which are defined as coming from a script or an expression.

To edit the value of other kinds of property or to edit a simple property's properties other than the value, use the property's edit window. To open a property's edit window,

Select the property you want to edit by clicking on its name.
Choose Edit Properties from the Object menu.

The editor for that property is opened. You can also double-click the property you want to edit.

Renaming a property

To change the name of a property,

Select the property you want to edit.
Move the cursor out of the name or press Return. An edit property is created with the text of the value.
Type the new name for the property and click anywhere outside the edit property or press Return. The property is renamed.
